As a health provider, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and the wider community. In light of the current COVID situation, we are continuing to review information from our professional body, the chief medical officer, and SA Health, and have implemented several strategies to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
GIVEN THE HIGH RISK NATURE OF ENT PRACTICE, WE ASK THAT PATIENTS ATTENDING FOR CONSULTATION CONSIDER ATTENDING ALONE OR WITH A SINGLE CARER, IF DEPENDENT.
CURRENTLY THERE IS NO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTIVE IN PLACE FOR ELECTIVE SURGERY IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS, AND ALL SURGERY IS PROCEEDING.
Should this change, we will notify any of our affected patients.
SURGERY AFTER COVID 19:
Please note that COVID 19 is a respiratory tract illness. The risk of anaesthesia thus increases for 7 weeks following infection (based on US and UK data).
The current recommendation of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists is:
“post PCR confirmation of COVID-19 infection, non-urgent elective major surgery should be delayed for a minimum of eight weeks and nonurgent elective minor surgery for at least 4 weeks, provided the patient has returned to baseline function and is symptom free. “
IT IS IMPORTANT TO ADVISE US OF RECENT COVID INFECTION IF YOU ARE DUE FOR SURGERY, SO WE CAN RESCHEDULE SURGERY APPROPRIATELY AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE GUIDELINES, TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY.
